Opportunity:
We are in search of an enthusiastic and energetic Summer Day Camp 1:1 Support Leaders to provide support, and assistance with the physical, social, and emotional skill development of a child who requires extra support. Reporting to the Summer Camp Coordinator and Camp Supervisors, successful candidates will have experience working with children with extra support needs. This role offers a unique opportunity to spend your summer outdoors: exploring local parks, beaches, and community spaces, while creating fun and memorable experiences with children.
Responsibilities:
The Summer Day Camp Support Leaders are responsible for providing support for individual children, including, but not limited to:
- Works closely with a child that needs extra support to ensure a successful Summer Day Camp experience, including guiding the child’s behaviour, and encouraging and assisting the child to participate in activities to the best of their ability.
- Develops and implements developmentally appropriate activities and experiences.
- Works with Supported Child Development to acquire resources for children requiring extra support.
- Completes Monthly Support Time sheets.
- Reviews and implements Care Plans for children requiring extra support.
- Ensures the child’s environment is healthy and safe.
- Ensures positive communication with children and families.
- Contributes to the ongoing operation of the Summer Day Camp program.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Program Manager as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least 19 years old.
- Training or experience related to guiding challenging behaviour or working with children who need extra support.
- Ideally one or more of the following: A School Age Care certificate, Education Assistant Certificate or a 20 Hour Responsible Adult training certificate.
- A minimum of 3 months’ experience in a similar environment.
- A current safety oriented first aid and CPR certificate (minimum 8-hour course).
- A clear criminal record check.
Contract Details:
- Salary Range: $21.50 per hour.
Employment:
- This position works full-time only during the weeks the child requiring support attends summer camp, ranging from a minimum of 1 week to a maximum of 9 weeks. Camp season is June 29 - August 31, 2026.
- Must attend one paid mandatory training and preparation session on June 20th, 2026 (8:30am – 4:00pm).
- Contract dates: dependent on the child's specific needs.
- Vacation pay as a percentage of wages will be paid out on each pay cheque.
