Mahjong Instructor
We are looking for a friendly and welcoming Instructor to teach the basics of Mahjong to new participants.
Contract Opportunity:
-This is a casual contract position
-Working two (2) hours per week for 6 weeks per session
-Hourly wage is $21.00
This position will work as part of the Seniors Services team at Parkgate Society, however this program is quickly becoming intergenerational. We are super excited about this program continuing to grow as it contributes to the overall effectiveness and success of our services for our community... helping them to feel better connected.
As we get started, our new Instructor will create a learning plan, manage the check in of the class and instruct two (2) tables of players at a time.
Our new Instructor will assist new players to learn enough of the basics to join registered social program play groups. The focus will be on inclusivity and great communication.
Anticipated Start date: Sept 8th
Requirements:
- a strong understanding of the game of Mahjong; focus on Hong Kong style;
- clear communication skills with an engaging style of delivery;
- strong interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills; build & maintain relationships with program participants & address any questions, suggestions, concerns & complaints as they arise;
- strong English language skills; additional languages an asset;
- other responsibilities that may arise, based on the needs of the program;
- experience working in community services or a not for profit would be an asset;
- specific previous experience working in or with seniors’ & other programming & services would be an asset;
- Strong ability to adapt and pivot in a fast-paced environment.
Physical requirements:
- long periods of standing
- possibly working outside and in different seasons
- carrying / lifting a minimum ten (10) lbs
Other Requirements:
- Minimum 19 years of age;
- Proof of legal eligibility to work in Canada;
- Clear Criminal Records Check for Vulnerable Persons, for employment clearance;
- Satisfactory completion of a background check which includes reference checks.
