About the Job
The Opportunity:
We're looking for a permanent part-time Infant/Toddler Educator to join our program at our Parkgate Community Centre location. In this afternoon role, you will help close the program each day and be a warm, welcoming face for families at pick-up.

Our approach to child care is play-based and family-centered, with a focus on each child's social-emotional learning and well-being. We aim to go beyond licensing requirements with a better-than-required child-to-staff ratio, and we stay current with the latest standards and best practices in early childhood development. Our centres are equipped with high-quality play equipment, including natural play and art materials.

What we offer:
  • A permanent, part-time position of 22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm; more hours may be available based on operational needs.
  • $22.00 - 27.00 per hour, depending on certifications and experience; this does not include the $6.00 per hour BC Wage Enhancement, which is paid to staff who hold the eligible certification(s).
  • Extended health & dental benefits.
  • Three (3) weeks paid vacation (pro-rated in the first year).
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • A warm, supportive Parkgate Society team.
  • Free parking and close to transit.
  • A beautiful North Vancouver setting, close to parks, mountains, trails and beaches, just up the road from deep Cove.
  • We share a space at Parkgate Community Centre, with excellent programs and fitness facilities offered by the North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission.

What you'll do:
  • Lead the daily closing of our infant/Toddler Child Care Program.
  • At the start of each shift, review the daily logbook and confidential documentation book, catch up on what happened that day and check in with staff about whats needed for the end of the day.
  • Keep children safe and well supervised at all times and in every space, including the playground and outdoors.
  • Recognize and respond to each child's needs using developmentally appropriate, positive guidance and teaching methods.
  • Follow the planning, preparation and delivery of stimulating, age-appropriate activities created by the program team.
  • Take part in team discussions that encourage children's creativity and learning and support each child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, in line with the BC early Learning Framework and the Code of Ethics.
  • Check each child out daily using our app, keeping attendance and ratios accurate.
  • Share each child's day with families at pick-up with warmth and empathy and note anything families share in the daily logbook.
  • Keep in regular touch with your team, other staff and families.
  • Be a full and consistent team member in caring for the children and in running the centre and programs.
  • Make sure the program always follows Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Take on other duties as assigned by the Child Care Supervisor or Manager.

What you'll bring:
  • A valid Early Childhood Educator Certificate (an infant/Toddler Certificate is preferred).
  • A current child care first aid certificate.
  • A clear criminal records check for vulnerable persons.
  • At least two (2) years experience in a licensed group child care setting in BC.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
  • It is a bonus if you also have a Special Needs Certificate and a FOODSAFE Certificate.
