Opportunity:
We are in search of an engaging, creative, detail oriented, organized and enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Community Events Coordinator. In this role they will support the planning and delivery of our annual Parkgate Community Day, a free, all-ages summer celebration that brings together over 700 local residents for a vibrant afternoon of food, music, games, crafts, and community connections. There will also be opportunities to plan and assist with other smaller-scale summer events hosted by Parkgate Society. 

Reporting to the Communications & Engagement Manager, the successful candidate will assist in coordinating event logistics, liaising with community groups, vendors, and performers, and supporting promotional and sponsorship efforts. Additionally, this role is expected to support our Volunteer Program and its Coordinator as needed throughout the contract term.  Ideally our candidate has experience in event planning, community outreach, and all kinds of communication.  

Contract Details: 
  • Our three (3) month contract will run June 1 – August 28, 2026.
  • Full-time, 35 hours per week, for 13 weeks.
  • Hourly Wage: $23.00 per hour (subsidized by Canada Summer Jobs program).
  • Location: Parkgate Community Centre, North Vancouver, accessible by public transit and/or free parking and near beautiful scenic trails, beaches and lots of amenities.   
 Key Responsibilities: 
  • Lead the planning and delivery of Parkgate Community Day and other summer events. 
  • Communicate with entertainers, vendors, sponsors, businesses, and community organizations. 
  • Support event logistics including activity planning, site layout, and scheduling. 
  • Provide ongoing support to the volunteer program and its coordinator as needed. 
  • Help develop and distribute promotional materials (e.g., posters, flyers, social media) 
  • Identify, approach, and secure event sponsors to support summer events, building mutually beneficial partnerships with local businesses and organizations. 
  • Provide on-site support on event days, including setup, troubleshooting, and cleanup. 
  • Contribute to post-event evaluation and wrap-up tasks. 
Required Skills and Knowledge: 
  • Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility (*ages 15–30, legally entitled to work in Canada).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with the public.
  • A genuine interest in community events; is naturally creative & curious.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Enjoys being in service and in community.
  • Is very organized and effective at managing multiple tasks at one time.
  • A clear Criminal Records Check for Vulnerable Persons will be required prior to hiring.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Related experience with event planning, marketing, or sponsorships.
  • Familiarity with creative tools e.g., Canva, social media platforms, or basic design tools.
  • Interest in working in the non-profit, event, or community engagement sector.
